As an experienced Manufacturing Group Lead for our Minneapolis District Office located in Edina, MN, you will contribute to our team by:

Responsibilities:

Strategic Business Development

  • Develop and execute strategic plan and objectives around client development and business growth in the manufacturing sector.
  • Proactively support our business development needs in the manufacturing sector.
  • Develop and execute growth ideas
  • Identify, assess and recommend construction projects to pursue. Utilizes a disciplined go/no-go approach to qualifying project opportunities. Utilizes Strategic Account management techniques to identify high-potential clients.
  • Develop and implement pursuit strategies to ensure we have an opportunity to propose on targeted projects.
  • Develop relationships with key personnel in target client companies as well as supporting services providers like architects, engineers and consultants in the manufacturing sector.
  • Develop and implement win strategies as we respond to RFP/RFQ requests.
  • Actively engage in targeted business development activities, especially in relation to planned/targeted results and prepare associated reports/analysis for management.
  • Serve as client manager for manufacturing sector projects, building strong client relationships and overall client satisfaction.
  • Acts as company ambassador, attending industry, political and community functions for the manufacturing sector.

Preconstruction Activity Management

  • Create project execution plans and develop budgets and schedules, in close coordination with colleagues in estimating and operations.
  • Work closely with the proposal coordinator, lead estimator and operations manager for all pursuits.
  • Attend all kick-off meetings to get alignment with all stakeholders of the pursuit team.
  • Perform the site walk to understand the project challenges, if possible.
  • Writing execution plans for proposals if/when necessary.
  • Evaluate project pursuits for execution risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Review contract language and bid package strategies and make recommendations.
  • Closely assist the assigned project manager and superintendent with any questions that may arise during the first few months of project start.
  • Visit projects periodically and provide helpful recommendations to improve execution performance.

Construction Activity Management

  • Provides overall leadership and support for manufacturing sector projects
  • Ultimately accountable for safety, budget, quality, schedule, and profitability performance.
  • Oversees project personnel operations and maintains excellent industry stakeholder relationships to create opportunities and new work.
  • Responsible for direct supervision of project teams. Leads teams of up to 20+ direct and indirect reports.
  • Monitors and delegates tasks related to onboarding and training of employees on their projects and assists in recruiting new team members and making other staffing decisions.
  • Develops strong operations teams with project managers and superintendents.
  • Participates in district succession planning and performance- potential rating calibration process for district field staff.
  • Provides leadership for operations management through coaching and mentorship and provides general direction to employees involved in very complex work.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering or construction management, with coursework in business preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive leadership experience in the manufacturing sector, in particular food processing/agribusiness and medical device manufacturing.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing construction industry operations, including building materials, construction specifications, methods and procedures, and safety and quality management practices for complex and more diverse projects.
  • Currently has a strong network within the manufacturing sector.
  • Proven experience in business development; forming relationships with decision makers and influencers.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure new work and clients on large projects.
  • Proven experience working successfully in a team environment.
  • Possesses a detailed knowledge of development, design and construction terminology with an understanding of construction and design systems and costs.
  • Comfortable utilizing MS Office Suite and Salesforce.
  • Understands and abides by all industry and government processes and regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication and interpersonal skills are a must. Impeccable speaking, grammar and writing skills are required.
  • Dedication and one who partners well but is proactive in driving opportunities and ideas forward.
  • Connector and relator with others; strength on both sides as an impactful communicator and tremendous listener.
  • Strategic insight leader who is proficient in assessing the effectiveness of narratives/proposals.
  • Travel and/or temporary project assignments (including out of town work) will be expected.
